He could be Ndiaye 2.0: Everton make enquiry to sign "electric" £43m star

Everton’s fourth summer signing of the 2025 window is through the door at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. The Toffees have brought in young Bayern Munich left-back Adam Aznou, for a fee reported by the Liverpool Echo to be in the region of £7.8m.

Indeed, the same report details that the Toffees’ summer spending is way past the £50m mark already. Charly Alcaraz made his loan move permanent, Mark Travers signed from Bournemouth as their new back-up goalkeeper, and the marquee signing so far has been Thierno Barry. The French striker joined Everton from Spanish side Villarreal.

Villarreal's Thierno Barry

Yet, David Moyes is not content, and reportedly wants five or six more signings this summer. Already, the Toffees have been linked with a new attacker.

Everton’s pursuit of a new attacker

It seems like Moyes wants to overhaul Everton’s attack this summer. Dominic Calvert-Lewin left the club on a free transfer, and Barry has been signed as his replacement. Now, the focus on the Blue half of Merseyside has seemingly switched to a new winger.

Transfer Focus

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

According to a recent report from Fabrizio Romano, the Toffees have enquired about signing Como and Senegal international winger Assane Diao. He is one option on the list as Everton look to reinvent their forward line under Moyes.

However, this will not be an easy deal to do. Como, managed by Premier League legend Cesc Fabregas, have ‘already turned down a bid this summer’ for the young winger.

Assane Diao for Como.

That club is unnamed, but perhaps it came from Everton’s Premier League rivals, Chelsea. One Spanish report said earlier in the window they were set to bid £43m for the 19-year-old.

Why Diao would be a good signing

After coming through Real Betis’ academy, Diao made the move to Italian side Como in January. Described as an “electric” winger by football scout Antonio Mango, the 19-year-old has made a huge impression in Serie A so far.

Although he is just 15 games into his Como career, Diao, already a Senegal international, has eight goals and one assist to his name. He was a key player under Fabregas, playing 1259 minutes, the equivalent of 13.9 full 90-minute games.

The former Betis star, who managed six goals and three assists for the club, showed in his short Como career that he can step up in the big games. Last season, he bagged goals against Milan, Juventus and Scudetto winners Napoli.

Moyes would surely be hoping the Senegal international could replicate the impact of his international teammate Iliamn Ndiaye. The Toffees’ attacker was described as a “superstar” by former defender-turned-pundit Jamie Carragher.

His impact last term, his debut campaign for Everton, was astronomical. He played 37 games across all competitions, scoring 11 goals. That included nine strikes in the Premier League, with this stunning effort against Tottenham Hotspur a standout.

Diao’s record at Como stands out in such a short amount of time, and he has a habit of finding the back of the net against big sides. There is reason to believe he has the talent to replicate what Nidaye has done.

He can also play on both wings. With his international teammate favouring the left, there is a chance Everton fans could see them line up on either flank.

The stats on Squawka, using Diao’s numbers from Serie A, are remarkably similar. For example, the Como star completes 1.4 take-ons and averages 0.6 chances created per 90 minutes. In contrast, Everton’s number 10 completes an average of 2.6 take-ons and creates 0.7 chances per game.

With the Toffees looking to overhaul their attack next term, signing Diao could be the dream option. He is a direct winger with an eye for goal and has the ability to light up the Hill Dickinson Stadium with his flair.

Joining his Senegal teammate Ndiaye on Bramley Moore Dock would be an exciting move, especially if he can become the second coming of the Everton star.

'I don't think Domenico Tedesco is a good trainer!' – Leandro Trossard's father savages Belgium boss as Arsenal star receives criticism for Euro 2024 performance

Leandro Trossard's father has hit out at Belgium boss Domenico Tedesco and defended the Arsenal star following criticism for his start to the Euros.

Belgium fell to a shock 1-0 defeat to Slovakia in their Euro 2024 opener, and the former Brighton man was one of many to come under fire for his lacklustre performance. Ahead of their crunch clash with Romania, his father Peter Trossard has laid the blame at manager Tedesco for how things have gone for his son thus far.

Advertisement(C)Getty ImagesWHAT LEANDRO TROSSARD'S FATHER SAID

His father told Belgian publication : “I don’t think Tedesco is a good trainer for Belgium. Although he doesn’t have the stubbornness of Roberto Martínez. Leandro gets criticized, but he was moved from one position to another. That way you don’t get a line in your game. Don’t underestimate those Romanians, Ukraine was not involved in their first match. But hopefully I’m wrong, the Belgians win and the enthusiasm flares up.”

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Prior to this match, Tedesco had an excellent record as Belgium boss – winning 10 and drawing four of his 14 matches in charge. That defeat was his first loss as manager and while Trossard was used as a left winger, in previous matches he has been played on the right or as an attacking midfielder, laying the blame at Tedesco's door for the 29-year-old's performance is, arguably, a bit of a reach.

Trossard's Belgium side will hope to get their Euros campaign back on track when they take on Romania – who won their first match 3-0 against Ukraine – on Saturday night at RheinEnergieStadion, before rounding off the group stages against Ukraine four days later.

Delhi Capitals set to buy out R Ashwin from Kings XI Punjab

It is understood that Kings XI are likely to appoint a new captain with India batsman KL Rahul being the favourite

Nagraj Gollapudi03-Sep-2019India offspinner R Ashwin is likely to join Delhi Capitals for the 2020 IPL. ESPNcricinfo understands that Ashwin is on the verge of moving out of Kings XI Punjab, who signed him at the 2018 auction for INR 7.6 crore (then USD 1.176 million approx) and appointed him captain. Although the current move would ordinarily be termed a trade, technically, Capitals are buying out the player in an all-cash deal.It is understood that, Capitals apart, Sunrisers Hyderabad had expressed interest in Ashwin at one point, but talks did not progress too far.Capitals are understood to have made the first move, and the two franchises have been engaged in talks for the past few months. If the deal goes through, Ashwin’s procurement would further swell Capitals’ rich collection of spinners. Capitals’ other Indian and overseas spinners include Axar Patel, Amit Mishra, Rahul Tewatia, Jalaj Saxena, Mayank Markande, J Suchith and Sandeep Lamichhane.Capitals will become the fourth IPL franchise for Ashwin, who has previously represented Chennai Super Kings, Rising Pune Supergiant and Kings XI.Over the years, Ashwin has not been afraid to experiment both with his bowling action and his stock balls, and has utilised his variety to create doubt and dominate batsmen. With his experience and skillset, Ashwin has proved to be an asset as he can bowl in the Powerplay, dry up runs in the middle overs, and restrict batsmen at the death. Overall, he has taken 125 wickets in 139 IPL matches at an economy rate of 6.79, which is the best among all Indian bowlers with 50-plus wickets. With Ashwin as captain, Kings XI won 12 games and lost 16 in the past two IPL seasons. Although they were a contender for the playoffs at the halfway stage in both seasons, they eventually failed to advance. It is understood that Kings XI, who recently sacked their entire coaching staff led by New Zealander Mike Hesson, are likely to appoint a new captain with India batsman KL Rahul currently the favourite. One of the Kings XI owners said that the management was keen to have a new captain who would lead the franchise in the future.

Inter Miami player ratings vs Philadelphia Union: Julian Gressel and Leo Afonso save nine-man Herons to overcome absences of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez

Without Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez available, nine-man Miami salvaged three points, someway, somehow

Inter Miami will look themselves in the mirror when they get back to their Philadelphia hotel rooms on Saturday night and ask themselves one question: "How in the world did we pull that off?"

With no Lionel Messi, no Luis Suarez and down to nine men due to a pair of untimely red cards, the Herons still escaped Subaru Park with a 2-1 win. It was an almost impossible result, but one that somehow happened. Somehow, some way, Inter Miami earned three points from a match that required a miracle to get just one, particularly without Messi and Suarez out of the team.

It can't be understated how big those losses are. They've combined for 24 goals, more than 12 entire MLS teams. Without those two, Miami are in survival mode until their return, and they did more than survive on Saturday.

Despite conceding an early goal to Mikael Uhre, the Herons fought back with a goal of their own from Julian Gressel. It was a big finish from the MLS veteran, who took advantage of some Jordi Alba magic and a Benjamin Cremaschi assist to level the score.

Miami had the better chances to score as the game wore on, but they seemingly threw away their hopes of stealing a win. A pair of red cards to David Ruiz and Tomas Aviles left Miami scrambling with nine men and begging for time to wind down on a draw.

They ended up earning more.

A stunning stoppage-time goal from Leo Afonso stunned the Union and, in some ways, Inter Miami, who took home a win that few could have ever predicted. And what an important win this might be, one that could help a lot later in the season when they look back at this time without the two attacking stars.

GOAL rates Inter Miami's players from Subaru Park…

Drake Callender (6/10):

Couldn't do much on the goal and wasn't challenged too much otherwise.

Jordi Alba (7/10):

Did most of the hard work on Gressel's goal, even if he won't get credited with the assist. With Messi and Suarez out, his ability to make things happen from out wide is huge.

Serhiy Kryvtsov (6/10):

Just didn't have the pace to save Miami once Uhre broke away. Can't fault him for the goal, though, and he was solid with his own defending.

Tomas Aviles (3/10):

No clue what he was doing on the Union's early goal and was disastrously sent off late. Simply inexcusable, even for a young defender.

Marcelo Weigandt (6/10):

Was a bit more effective in the attack, but didn't really change the game.

Sergio Busquets (7/10):

A typically steady performance from the midfielder, who put up the passing numbers you'd expect from him particularly with Messi out.

Benjamin Cremaschi (7/10):

Credited with the assist, although it came as a result of a bad tough. He'll surely take it, though! Outside of that moment, he was very, very active on both sides of the ball.

David Ruiz (4/10):

Discipline is starting to become a concern with Ruiz, who was sent off with about 25 minutes remaining. You just can't afford that in a tie game, which is a lesson Ruiz should have learned by now.

Getty ImagesAttack

Robert Taylor (6/10):

Did his thing to try and stretch the defense, but didn't really create anything meaningful for himself or others.

Leo Campana (6/10):

Forced a really big save midway through the second half. That turned out to be his best look on goal, though, as he couldn't quite generate enough meaningful chances.

Julian Gressel (8/10):

One heck of a finish. Gressel stepped forward into a wing position with Messi out and he made the most of his time in attack, scoring a fantastic equalizer.

Getty ImagesSubs & Manager

Yannick Bright (6/10):

Was brought in to provide some energy with the Herons down a man at the time.

Noah Allen (N/A):

Thrown on in stoppage time to help kill the game.

Leo Afonso (9/10):

Same as above, but he killed it in a different way. His late goal was a stunner and could prove to be a season-defining moment for this team.

Gerardo Martino (8/10):

Credit to Martino for having this team ready to play without Messi and Suarez. Bonus points for guiding this team to three points they didn't necessarily deserve.

Man Utd believe they could strike deal for "unstoppable" £40m Bayern target

Manchester United now believe they can strike a deal for an “unstoppable” £40m forward, and they could hijack Bayern Munich’s deal in the process, according to a report.

Man Utd remain keen on new forwards

The Red Devils haven’t been overly busy in the transfer window up to this point, but they have managed to get two forwards through the door, namely Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, with the Cameroon international putting pen to paper earlier this week.

AI predicts how many goals and assists Cunha and Mbeumo will get for Man Utd in 2025/26

The pair have been backed to star at Old Trafford.

ByCharlie Smith Jul 22, 2025

Speaking about the reason he chose to sign for United, Mbeumo said: “As soon as I knew there was a chance to join Manchester United, I had to take the opportunity to sign for the club of my dreams; the team whose shirt I wore growing up.

“My mentality is to always be better than I was yesterday. I know that I have the spirit and character to reach another level here, learning from Ruben Amorim and playing alongside world-class players.”

However, with Marcus Rashford Barcelona-bound, there are also major doubts over Alejandro Garnacho’s future at Old Trafford, so Ruben Amorim may need to bring in at least one more forward this summer.

According to a report from TEAMtalk, one option the Red Devils have in mind is Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku, as there is a belief they would be able to strike a deal for the 14-cap France international.

United view Bayern Munich as the frontrunners in the race for Nkunku’s signature, as he has already given the green light for a move to the Allianz Arena, but Amorim’s side could hijack the deal.

A deal should be doable for a fee in the region of £35m – £40m, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealing the forward is nearly certain to depart Stamford Bridge.

"Unstoppable" Nkunku needs to leave Chelsea

The 27-year-old was largely limited to appearances as a substitute in the Premier League last season, and with the Blues signing the likes of Joao Pedro, Liam Delap and Jamie Gittens this summer, he is likely to fall even further down the pecking order.

While the Frenchman hasn’t exactly set the world alight at Chelsea, journalist Zach Lowy lauded him as “unstoppable” during his time with RB Leipzig, with the former Bundesliga star showcasing his attacking talents across the 2021-22 and 2022-23 campaigns.

Given that he flourished during his previous stint in Germany, a move to Bayern Munich may be more tempting for Nkunku, and having failed to adapt to life in the Premier League, it would not be a major blow if Man United missed out.

Chelsea in talks with agents of "amazing" £40m star, he's open on the move

Chelsea have now made contact with the agents of an “amazing” Premier League star, who is open to a move to Stamford Bridge this summer, journalist Simon Phillips has revealed.

Maresca looking to bolster his backline

Enzo Maresca is proud of the strides his side have taken since last summer, having recently been crowned Club World Cup champions, with the manager saying: “For me, the biggest achievement this season is that exactly one year ago, no one was talking about Chelsea for football (reasons), but talking about the big squad, big money.

“Now, no one is talking about this, but they are talking about the way we play, and the way we win games. This is personally the biggest achievement of this season.”

The Blues silenced a lot of critics with their shock 3-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain, but their squad arguably still needs to be trimmed down, with Nicolas Jackson now unhappy about potentially being behind Liam Delap and Joao Pedro in the pecking order.

More exciting than Rogers: Chelsea in talks to sign "exceptional" £52m ace

Chelsea could sign a more exciting talent than Morgan Rogers by snapping up this £52m ace.

ByKelan Sarson Jul 20, 2025

At the opposite end of the pitch, however, Maresca may still need some new recruits, given that Tosin Adarabioyo, Trevoh Chalobah or Benoit Badiashile could be used as part of a swap deal for Aston Villa attacking midfielder Morgan Rogers.

As such, according to Phillips, Chelsea have now made fresh contact with the agents of Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, who is expected to cost around £40m, as he has now entered the final year of his contract and doesn’t plan to renew.

Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi with the FA Cup.

The journalist also added: “Guehi has a lot of interest and not just from Chelsea, and he is expected to depart his club this summer.

“Guehi is believed to be open to making a move back to Chelsea this summer but is also aware of other interest from big clubs in the Premier League.”

Guehi could be "amazing" signing for Chelsea

It could be difficult for the Palace defender to immediately force his way into Maresca’s starting XI, given that the Blues’ backline impressed considerably at the Club World Cup, keeping four clean sheets, including one against PSG in the final.

However, having proven himself in the Premier League over a number of years, the 25-year-old clearly has the talent to be a success at Stamford Bridge, with international teammate Harry Maguire even dubbing him as “amazing”.

The England international made 44 appearances in all competitions last season, displaying his leadership abilities by captaining the Eagles, while also impressing manager Oliver Glasner.

Guehi could be a fantastic signing at just £40m, and Chelsea should have the funds to make a deal, considering their recent Club World Cup triumph.

De Bruyne discusses riches on offer in SaudiHas one year on his Man City contractWife Michele also open to moveGetty WHAT HAPPENED?

There is one year remaining on De Bruyne's contract at Man City, and the Saudi Pro League is very interested in him as they try to build on their success and attract the world's top players to their league. The City star has confirmed he plans to finish his contract in Manchester, which will take him to a decade of service at the club. However, the Belgian is now pondering life after City, and has admitted to talking to his wife Michele about potential next destinations, including Saudi Arabia.

AdvertisementWHAT DE BRUYNE SAID

Speaking to Belgian publication HLN, De Bruyne said: "For Michele, an exotic adventure is okay. These are also conversations that we are increasingly having as a family.

"I still have one year left on my contract, so I have to think about what could happen. My eldest is now eight years old and knows nothing but England. He also asks how long I will play for City. Once the moment comes, we will have to deal with it in a certain way."

Pressed on the possibility of entertaining the Saudi Pro League's interest in his services, De Bruyne added: "At my age you have to be open to everything. You're talking about incredible amounts of money in what may be the end of my career. Sometimes you have to think about that.

"If I play there for two years, I will be able to earn an incredible amount of money. Before that, I had to play football for 15 years. I may not even reach that amount yet. Then you have to think about what that could mean next. But at the moment I haven't had to think about that yet.”

De Bruyne could join the ever-growing list of elite European players to make the switch to the Middle East, which includes the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, Karim Benzema, Sadio Mane and Aleksandar Mitrovic. He has also been linked to Major League Soccer's expansion side San Diego FC, but the financial package on offer in Saudi is likely to be far greater.

WHAT NEXT FOR DE BRUYNE?

The Belgian will have another year to ponder his future and hold conversations with clubs, his family and advisors to make the correct decision. However, for now, he will turn his attention to the Euros with Belgium as he looks to win his first international title.
